Our Story

Handel's Messiah performed by candlelight
[01]The Beginning

Meeting our founding benefactor Leslie MacLeod-Miller changed everything. He recognised the potential in our vision from the very beginning, giving Salon Opera the confidence and foundation to become a reality.

Our first production, Handel's Messiah by candlelight, marked the beginning of our exploration into presenting opera through intimate, immersive performances of extraordinary musical intensity.

Madama Butterfly staged in the salon
Carmen performed at close quarters
Tosca sung unamplified to a seated salon
[02]Finding Our Voice

Rather than allowing intimate spaces to limit our ambitions, we embraced opera's greatest masterpieces, establishing our voice through Madama Butterfly, Carmen and Tosca, while remaining committed to discovering exceptional young artists.

[03]Gaining Momentum

The creation of our Supporters Circle gave Salon Opera the stability to grow. Thanks to those early supporters, we have remained focused on identifying the finest emerging talent and giving extraordinary artists a stage on which to flourish.

[04]Where We Are Today

Today we continue to present ambitious repertoire, from Turandot to Salome, reimagining these masterpieces for intimate spaces by reducing the orchestral forces while preserving their dramatic power and emotional intensity.
